Hello,

I am new to this group, and this morning we lost one of our GP's, our male. We thought at the end of last week that he had caught an upper respitory infection. We later found out, after he died, that he had been chewing the silicone off of the corners of the inside of the fish take we kept him in. When he died he expelled the silicone. His name was Chillie, he and my daughter were very close and he would talk to her and it would seem as though she understood him. They loved each other and he will never be forgotten. We still have our female GP her name is Chi. I am concerned right now with her because she has been mad and upset since right after he passed away.

hi. i'm sorry to hear about chillie. it's ok to grieve for those we love. i know how you feel. guinea pigs are social animals and it would be good for chi if you get another one for her. i have a few suggestions though if you don't mind. First, try to adopt (don't buy from a breeder) another female (to prevent breeding) to be chi's companion. try to change your piggie's home from a fish tank (poor ventilation) (toxic materials-silicon) into a C&C cage (well ventilated) (easy clean-up) (adjustable size) etc. you can browse the net to find them (try cavycages.com) piggies are noticeably healthier and happier if they have a bigger space. believe me, if your piggy is happy you will be too. i have four piggies right now and i love them so much. send me an email if you need more advice. i have so much more to share about gp's. thanks
